Denver Aquarium Pics

I’m finally getting around to processing some older pictures that have been sitting on my hard drive. These are from the Denver Aquarium. We went to Denver at the beginning of May 2006 for my company’s Engineering and Science Symposium. I didn’t have much free time, but they gave us one evening free. Some friends and I decided to go to the Aquarium there. We even ate dinner at the restaurant that was at the facility. I figured the food would be cheap touristy food, but it was actually a really good meal. Turns out, the restaurant was owned by the same people who own Landry’s Seafood restaurants. However, we got teased when we got back for eating fish at an aquarium. :)

The Perch

My newest picture in my gallery was taken from my bedroom window. This little stump in the lake behind my apartment is a favorite perch for the egrets and the herons (Great Blue) that live around the lake. I would hazard to guess that 40% of all mornings will see one of these birds fishing or preening from this post.

I was excited to get this shot because I don’t often see the egrets. And when I do see them, they don’t usually stay this long. I watched this bird for atleast 10 minutes before I went to get my camera. He was preening and making himself presentable. For some reason, the herons and egrets are fascinating to me. They make flight look so effortless while they just glide through the air. They also have the craziest squawk of a voice. And they are great fishermen. I once watched a Great Blue Heron swallow an 8 to 10 in. fish whole. Pretty impressive!

Up and Running

My blog is basically functional now. Yipee!

In the process of ironing out my theme for this blog, I’ve learned a few things about CSS and browser compatability (and a little about apache mod_rewrite — but I won’t go into that now ;) ). The most interesting thing I learned about CSS has to deal with the way IE renders styles. Now keep in mind, this is just what worked for me…I have no sources to back this up really. :) Continue reading

Theme 98% Complete!

Well, I think I’ve modified the theme so that a viewer’s first impression of this sight isn’t “Ugh!”

That’s not to say that there won’t be a few surprises along the way. I may not have tested every possibility since I’m still learning about all the features this blogging software has to offer. But for the casual viewer, things should look okay now.

I learned a lot about CSS in the process of doing this modification. It still amazes me how much can be done in pure CSS. Cross browser support is still a little annoying, but it makes designing the look and feel of a site very nice.
