He’s Still Working on Me

I woke up this morning with a child’s Sunday School song on my brain:

He’s still working on me
to make me what I ought to be.
It took Him just a week to make the moon and the stars;
the sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars.
How loving and patient He must be.
He’s still working on me.

While it was a somewhat strange thing to have going on in my head, it was a great reminder and a nice encouragement.  I am very grateful that God hasn’t finished working on me yet; that He hasn’t lost patience when I do the idiotic things that I am often wont to do.  It’s nice to be reminded that the way things are isn’t the way they will always be.  If I seek after Him, He will continue to make me in His image.

Feeling the need to celebrate!

I’ve been messing around with the Gallery3 Media Picker plugin for WordPress by Kriss Andsten for a while now.  (His site link appears to be broken, but it can easily be found by searching the plug-in repository for WordPress) There was a bug somewhere that would not allow this nice plugin to function with my site.  But, that’s  no longer the case!!!  I finally found and squashed the bug and now I can post thumbnails from my photo gallery by browsing directly in WordPress. Yay!

I took matters a little further as well and modified his code so that the links that are generated use the embeditem gallery3 plugin (see site here) instead of a hard link to the image path.  That allows me to freely rearrange my gallery without having to worry about breaking links here in my blog.  This is the connection for which I’ve been searching for a while now.

I still would like to take steps to unify my web design between my blog and my gallery,  but at least I can easily post my images now.  Makes me happy! And just because I can, here’s a random image! Ha!

New Host

Finally!  I’ve made the switch to a new web host.  I’m cautiously optimistic that this one will work well. I already know it’s better than my previous host in terms of the services and features it provides. Time will tell, however, regarding the reliability of the servers and the helpfulness of the support staff (though, I hope not to have need of them often). Let’s just say, the geek in me is excited to have SSH access (with port forwarding still enabled!) so that I feel like I have a real web development environment again. :)

I’m still searching for the best way to integrate my photo gallery into my site as seemlessly as possible.  I’d like for both this blog and the gallery to feel like one site, not two. Plus, if I can get the photo integration correct, then I can start turning this site into a photo journal (which is really what I intended from the very start).

To celebrate the move to the new host, I’ve updated my theme to have a nice spring feel to it.  The picture of the cherry blossoms was taken by me back in 2008 during the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC.  That was my first cherry blossom festival…I still try make time each year to get up into the heart of things while the festival is going on.  It’s starting to feel like a tradition!

New Theme

So, I decided it was high time I took advantage of the latest goodies WordPress provides. One of those is a new theme with the ability to derive new themes from it. I love the parent->child construct…it’s something I’m familiar with from other coding languages.

Right now, I’ve only customized the most basic things.  I’ll gradually be tweaking it to make it more “me.”  Right now, it’s too similar to its parent…this child needs to grow up and become its own thing! :)
